Medication Disposal Drop Box - Cherokee County Courthouse

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, provides a secure pharmaceutical take-back drop box for proper disposal of unused or expired medications. This service is offered year-round during regular courthouse hours as a free resource to the citizens of Cherokee County.

Location

The medication disposal container is located:

• Inside the Cherokee County Courthouse

• Second Floor

• Just inside the front doors, next to the public directory board and vending area

Accepted Items

Residents may safely dispose of the following:

• Unused or expired prescription medications

• Unneeded over-the-counter medications

• Medications in pill or tablet form

Items Not Accepted

For safety and regulatory reasons, the following cannot be placed in the drop box:

• Syringes or needles (sharps)

• Inhalers

• Liquids, gels, or chemicals

• Pressurized containers

• Hazardous medical waste

These restrictions help ensure safe handling and proper destruction of medications collected through the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Safe Trip for Scripts Program.

The pharmaceutical take-back program helps:

• Prevent misuse of prescription drugs

• Protect children and vulnerable adults

• Reduce accidental poisonings

• Keep medications out of landfills and local waterways

• Support a safer and healthier Cherokee County

We encourage all residents to periodically clean out their medicine cabinets and use this secure disposal site.
